Space, the final frontier. Over the past 70 years, space has proven itself to be a very valuable resource. We have achieved many great technological discoveries thanks to space. Systems such as GPS could not exist without it. We have learned a great amount about our universe and our world thanks to space.

There is a great importance to the development of space. It is something I feel that must be invested into to its fullest. Here is why I believe that.

One of the reasons I feel our government should invest more into this is because Earth will not be able to sustain humanity forever. As the population grows, space available on the planet will lessen. Resources are going to become more strained.

However, there are ways to prevent this. Planets such as Mars could be colonized many years in the future. We will only be able to know if that is possible, though, if we invest more into space. The benefits of this, would be worth the cost.

Space is also filled with many resources that could improve life on Earth. A single asteroid in space can provide a massive amount of minerals for us to use. If done correctly, the wealth that would come  from space would improve the life of the average person on Earth.

We have also gained a great amount of knowledge from space exploration. Much has been learned about how our universe and our solar system came to be. The more we learn about our universe, the more we can learn about threats that might be out there. In the end, I feel it is very important that we learn as much as we can about space so we can prepare to deal with problems that face us in the future.

Speaking of problems that face us, remember the dinosaurs? There are plenty of rouge asteroids in space. One of them will hit us eventually. Investments into space can help prevent such an event from ever happening again.

My final point for this is look at all of the ways space is benefiting us already. Satellites have allowed us to communicate with each other better than ever before. We have learned much about our world from observations made in space. Systems such as GPS are reliant on space and have made life and less stressful. In addition, satellites have allowed our military to observe threats from space.

As you can see, there are a great many benefits to space. Our government though does not invest enough into space to achieve what can be achieved. They give NASA around $19.5 billion a year. A mission to Mars could cost over $100 billion dollars. This is all according to an article written in Newsweek.com.

I also feel that the public at large is simply ignorant of space. They don’t know enough about it. I think we should do a better job of educating the public so they understand space better.

I hope you can see why I feel this final frontier is very important. Humanity may be many generations away from achieving these goals, but  if we work towards them, then the benefits will bring humanity into a new age. We might not see the full potential of it, but our descendants will.
